Yanni Hufnagel is what The University of Nevada always needed. His role as the Assistant men’s basketball coach has opened up many new doors for his players and his own future career in the sport. He is their recruiting genius and their saving grace. In his short time assisting at Harvard for all of four seasons, major wins have occurred for the team with their 79-24 record showing proof of his skill. Hufnagel is far more than just another 30 something old Jewish guy. He is a force to be reckoned with. His talents in recruiting basketball players has always been evident, even as a young man in college. Yanni Hufnagel always had something to prove and made his talents known time after time. Coming from his humble beginnings in Scarsdale, NY commenting on basketball team games on local access television, Hufnagel moved on to complete his college degree at Cornell University. His talents became truly evident once he started working at Harvard with Tommy Amaker in 2009. From there he moved on to work with other coaches at Vanderbilt and Cal State recruiting for them and leading them to victories with stellar players. After leaving California due to sexual harassment allegations, which Hufnagel denied, he received an enormous amount of requests from other schools offering him positions. After some time he selected Nevada to share his gift with and it certainly has paid off for their team. One season after another he reeled in top notch quality players such as Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb. Yanni Hufnagel’s rise to success to his now present job with The University of Nevada was not an easy one, but his gifts and genius as a college basketball recruiter combined with his experience, make him a valuable asset to any college basketball program.
