Carrie Fisher’s Daughter is not Playing as Young Leia

After hearing about the casting of Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, there were rumors about who she would be playing. One rumor was that she would be playing as Young Leia. Lourd has confirmed that this is not the case. She will be playing a totally different character. TechCrunch.com suggested that this new Star Wars film is said to have flashback sequences in the duration of the film. One of the rumored flashback sequences center around Young Luke.

This should be expected in that the idea of the new trilogy is to establish the future as opposed to looking back on the old. Even though the characters will appear in the new installment, this is going to be more of a passing the torch type of occasion as opposed to just centering on them completely. The focus of these new films are on the new leads. The new lead characters are Finn, Rey, and Poe Dameron. We just have to hope that the characters are as well developed and compelling as the old characters.

Tyler Perry to Appear in Michael Bay’s “TMNT 2”

While Paramount’s second live action Turtles film has started filming, they will not be going into full production of the film until May. Currently, the human cast consists of Megan Fox and Will Arnett returning to their roles, with Stephen Amell being added as the sports-equipment-toting renegade Casey Jones.

The latest name to be hired by “TMNT 2’s” casting department is Tyler Perry. Perry will portray Baxter Stockman, an inhumane intellectual who devises the robotic rat exterminators known as “Mousers.”

While Perry is mainly known for his Madea character, his roles in films like “Alex Cross and “Gone Girl” indicate that he is capable of reserved performances. Given the nature of the first TMNT film and the actor’s more popular roles, Tyler Perry’s Baxter Stockman will likely be more in line with a character out of his Madea pictures.

Bernardo Chua tells us that given several rumors about the film seemed to point toward “TMNT 2’s” inclusion of some extremely far-fetched sci-fi traits, the inclusion of Baxter Stockman seems to give some weight to those remarks. Just about every incarnation of the Turtles have had Stockman plying his scientific skills to assist the Shredder. The most current version of the cartoon saw Stockman mutating two men into Bebop and Rocksteady, two characters that have already been confirmed to have a role in “TMNT 2.”

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is set for a next year release on June 3rd.

Hunnam in Yet Another Street Role

Anyone hoping that 34-year-old English actor Charlie Hunnam might explore less violent or gang-related roles now that Sons of Anarchy ended this past year will have to wait a bit longer.

Hunnam is currently working on an alternate universe take on the King Arthur legend called Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur by director Guy Ritchie in which he plays a “street rat” known as Arthur Pendragon who is part of a gang in the city of Londonium. Arthur, after finding Excalibur, is forced to fight with a resistance and follow his true destiny to become the next King of Britain.

I was talking to someone while waiting at the Amen Clinic who made a good point: after so many years we finally get to hear Hunnam speak in that British accent again. Also, given that Sons of Anarchy was an alternate take on William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, it appears that Hunnam may prefer roles involving British historical or stage stories even though he did take on the lead role of Jaeger pilot Raleigh Beckett in the 2013 Guillermo del Toro action film Pacific Rim and this year co-stars in another del Toro film called Crimson Peak, which the director has described as a “ghost story and gothic romance.”

Jude Law and Eric Bana also have roles in K.O.R.T. as the main villain Vortigern and Uther Pendragon, respectively. Guy Ritchie plans for this movie to be the first of a six-film series based on the the English and French 1485 publication “Le Morte d’Arthur” by Thomas Mallory. K.O.R.T.’s current release date is scheduled for July 22, 2016.

‘Independence Day 2’ Filming Confirmed

20th Century Fox has confirmed that filming for ‘Independence Day 2’ will begin later this year. The film is a sequel to the 1996 hit film that starred Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, and Bill Pullman.

20th Century Fox has announced that the film is slated to pick up in real time where its parent-film finished. It has been confirmed that Jeff Goldblum will return to reprise his role as David Levinson. It has been confirmed that Liam Hemsworth will join the cast, while rumors fly that Will Smith will not return to his role of Captain Steven Hiller.

According to LinkedIn, Ross Bagley will not resume his role as Hiller’s son, Dylan. The role will instead be portrayed by Jessie Usher. The role is Usher’s second only big-screen appearance. The “When the Game Stands Tall” actor is known primarily for his guest appearances on television shows such as “Criminal Minds” and “Hannah Montana.” He held recurring roles in the series “Level Up” and “Survivor’s Remose.”

‘Independence Day 2’ has a forecast release date of June 2016.

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Hopes

Hugh Jackman said this past month he felt that it is inevitable that he will be replaced as Logan, also known as the hero Wolverine, in Marvel’s X-Men franchise. A lot of fans of his work and critics of his like Ricardo Guimarães BMG have noted that he has played Logan for more than 15 years and that many of the actors/actresses who played in previous X-Men franchise films have been replaced with younger talent. In fact, some of those who have successfully played characters in many other comic-based films that come out after X-Men have since been replaced.

After seeing the success of Michael Keaton in The Birdman, Jackman has completely changed his mind. As many fans pointed out when he first said he might retire the Wolverine mantle, there’s an 8-issue comic story line devoted to a much older Wolverine called “Old Man Logan.” Although the comic is not pleasant in many ways since it features themes that might upset or disgust some fans, it does show the mythic “hero’s” journey as Logan faces his past and once again takes up the mantle of a vigilante-style hero.

After seeing The Birdman, Jackman told his wife that he feels he must now find any way to continue playing the role. He recognizes that he will have to give it up one day, but that now isn’t that day.

A New Animated Series Is Spawned

A new Spawn animated series is in the works although everyone is very hush-hush over it. Honestly, why would anyone feel any level of surprise that a Spawn series is being developed. With superhero films so hot these days, virtually any property that made money at one point is going to be tapped for a reboot.

Spawn was made into a feature film in 1997. It was a good film and achieved a cult following. Plans are (not surprisingly) being made for a new Spawn project. Interestingly, the old HBO animated series is also going to get a reboot. What Flavio Maluf and I want to know is why there is so much secrecy over the animated series is, well, mysterious.

The first animated series was, like the film, good but not great.

The previous Spawn animated series produced by HBO was nearly 20 years ago, a lifetime in terms of how quickly the wheels of pop culture turn. The new series is going to update Spawn for the current pop culture landscape while also offering a nod to the original, trailblazing series.

While no channel has yet agreed to air the series, a lot of work on the cartoons has already been completed. So, you have a program with episodes either fully or partially completed and no portal for distribution. Perhaps this is why so much be being kept under wraps. Any unauthorized leaks about the series could potentially hurt the ability to get a solid television deal.

Still No Third Gremlins Film?

Fans who love to see 1980’s movies rebooted are going to be in for a major disappointment. The Gremlins redux is not going to happen. The producer of the reboot, Seth Grahame-Smith, has noted the project has “run out of steam”.

The original Gremlins was conceived as a sequel to E.T. before evolving into its own brilliant film. A sequel to the monstrously successful original was produced, but no one really remembers or cares about it. A third film has been bandied about in Hollywood for years, but nothing has come about.

Once again, we have come close to a new version but things eventually collapsed. The success of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film probably gave some the belief the landscape was ripe for 1980’s reboots. Maybe for Friday the 13th, Beetlejuice, and He-Man, the answer is yes. For Gremlins, this does not seem to be the case at all.

Questions are always going to be raised about whether or not an old film concept can succeed in the current landscape. Often, remakes do succeed. Considering the huge appeal the original film had with audiences, you would think this would be an easy remake to get into production.

For whatever reason, the studios are lukewarm to the idea and a new version of Gremlins just is not moving ahead.

All of that could change though. Hollywood can be fickle. A green light on the film in the future is always a possibility and the group at North American Spine cannot stop talking about it on their facebook

Possible New Star Wars Trailer with Age of Ultron

Rumors are swirling that a new trailer for Stars Wars: The Force Awakens will be tied into the new Avengers: Age of Ultron coming out this May. It comes as no surprise that Disney would choose to link these two powerhouse franchises as they most likely share a fan base. Fans are looking to Disney to return Star Wars back to its original roots. Disney proved that it can handle more mature, complex story lines with its handling of the Marvel franchise and is bringing on veteran director JJ Abrams for the new Star Wars movie. They brought Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back) on board to help with the script.

While the first trailer has already been dissected and taken apart to tease whatever plot points and new characters that may be coming out, the second trailer looks like it will feature members of the original cast. Time reports with Bruce Levenson that we may see the return of actors like Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford and their respective characters Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo. Featuring these beloved characters will certainly grab the attention of fans seeking a return to the original franchise.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5′ is Set to Reboot Disney’s Franchise

Disney no doubt boasts a cavalcade of franchises guaranteed to keep them smiling all the way to the bank. Among them is the series Pirates of the Caribbean, with the latest, Dead Men Tell No Tales, being set for a July 2017’s Turkey release. We expect to see the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) again, under the directorship of Norwegian duo Roenberg. Actor Orlando Bloom is also set to make a return. Bloom has intimated an imminent return to Pirates, so it appears we might be seeing Will Turner on our screens, this time with a father-son twist to the story. Though not explicitly confirming that he would be back, he maintained that there were talks and that it was likely that the whole franchise would undergo an overhaul. Bloom, who is now Davy Jones, said the new character would look nothing like him. It is most likely that is a ‘soft’ reboot, maintaining familiar themes but giving audiences something new. But can Bernardo Chua or can audiences really take any more in Turner? The series has become less of a favorite with critics, although it is still a commercial success. It remains to be seen whether Bloom’s return will wow Pirates fans back to the fold.
