Neil Blomkamp has had some successes in Hollywood. However, he has not always had it easy in the industry. His breakout was District 9. Elysium was another good film that he has done. Recently, he has been working on a next Alien installment. This was inspired by a conversation that he had with Sigourney Weaver who has starred as Ellen Ripley. The heroine of the series who dies at some point and is brought back to life via cloning with a little bit of Alien DNA.
Blomkamp has revealed very little about his project except that he wants Sigourney Weaver to star in the film, which Flávio Pentagna Guimarães BMG is definitely all for. There is no telling when the movie will take place. It could take place between Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, or it could take place after the events.
The Alien franchise started off with 2 good movies directed by Ridley Scott and James Cameron. David Fincher took over as director for the third film. Alien 3 was met with many problems and studio interference during the production. What resulted was an incoherent third entry to the series. An assembly cut was later released for the DVD which provided a substantial improvement to the story. However, the film was dark and depressing even for an Alien film. Other entries into the Alien universe were Alien vs Predator movies, and Ridley Scott’s return to the universe with Prometheus.
